Century Resources Fundraiser

Old Quarry Band Boosters

Dear Parents;

This week is the start of our Century Fundraiser.  This is the fundraiser in which we sell cookies, cheesecakes, candies and other assorted items.  Your child will listen to a presentation from a Century representative on Oct. 1 and 2 during band rehearsal and will be given the materials needed for the fundraiser.  You are welcome to attend the presentation.

The timeline for this fundraiser is roughly two weeks.  If your child sells ten items within the first week they are eligible for an extra prize.  It is important that your child has this accomplishment verified by the Band Director signing the sale sheet by Oct. 9.  They will not be eligible afterward.  The sales sheets and money collected are due back on Oct. 16.

Your child is responsible for the money they collect from sales.  We strongly suggest that they avoid cash when possible.  All information must be filled out on the sales form.  We make every effort to get all items to the correct person, but it’s impossible when not given the proper information.

Have a fun and safe time selling.  Please contact the directors or the board members if you have any questions.

Thanks,

The Band Boosters

Let's Get It Started!

It's another year and band/choir is starting up again!

If you are a 4th grader or new student we ask that you come to our open house in the Old Quarry Band room on Monday the 26th from 6:30pm-8:30pm or Wednesday the 28th from 6:30pm-8:30pm. You can attend either (or both) events, and it's not required that you're there the entire time. This event will get you started on everything you need to get registered, pay tuition, and renting an instrument. If you are interested in choir, this is the time to meet with your director and get placed in an ensemble.

The first day of band for 5th-8th graders is on Aug 26th. Please check your calendar for your specific class schedule

The first day of band for 4th grade beginners is September 3rd.

The directors and I are really excited to see all of you.

As always, please let me know if there are any questions. I'm happy to help in any way I can.

Thanks,

Mr. Alongi

. . . what a great performance!
Today, the Old Quarry 7th and 8th grade Symphonic band traveled to Burr Ridge Middle School to take part in the South Eastern DuPage band festival. After a morning spent preparing, the band went downstairs, took the stage at 11:45, and delivered an outstanding performance.

Following the performance, one member of the three-judge panel, spent about 20 minutes working through two of our songs, and really provided some thoughtful musical insights for our kids.

The entire event was wonderful to see. Congratulations to all of our band students, and a special thank you to Mr. Alongi for putting together such a worthwhile experience.

Below are a few pictures from the event. Click the images for a larger photo.

Lemont Band

What a great turnout we had for last week's band concert at Lemont High School. Thank you all for coming and supporting our students.

In case you missed it, here is a short video snippet of the performance.

Next Competition

Our next event will be our performance at a band festival in Burr Ridge. The festival will be held at Burr Ridge Middle School on March 9th.  This will be our first band competition in some time, so wish us luck!

You should have already received an email with details surrounding the Burr
Ridge event. Additionally, paper copies of
the itinerary for March 9 were distributed to students during the week of
February 19. If you did not receive this information, or have any questions, please contact Frank Alongi as soon as possible.

As we get ready for this event, the insignia above the doors in the band room seems especially timely.

"Mediocrity Is Contagious, So Is Excellence!"

As we and our students all work to be our best, we're hoping that same desire can't help but rub off on those surrounding us.

Off we go on another adventure!
