CHARMS

Dear Parents,
As you know, because of budget cuts and lack of curriculum based support, we have been searching for a way to overcome the struggles of improving the administrative and organizational aspect of the band to a level that reflects the high performance and learning that is associated with our program. As a result, starting next year the Old QuarryBand Boosters will begin to integrate the "Charms" software and attendance system into our program. Charms is an online, "cloud", that stores information such as attendance, msic, instrument, payment,merit points and other aspects that are needed to administrate a successful program. Here are some advantages that students, parents and staff gain with the use of this software.
  
  •   A complete overview of a student roster that includes e-mail, address, phone numbers, emergency contacts and other pertinent information. The info can all  be accessed by staff anytime during the day.
  • A simple way to keep attendance. As you know, attendance in a band with 150 plus students that is part of a non-cirriculum, after school based program is not as simple as it seems. "Charms" allows us to keep attendance in a fast efficient way.
  • "Charms" makes sending, receiving and reading e-mails more streamlined and efficient because it allows us to send e-mails to everyone at once, or just certain groups. We can filter out e-mail by grade, instrument, band or any other group that we need. That means less e-mail for you in your inbox, and you'll only receive the e-mails you need.
  • "Charms" allows the parent to fill out forms such as concert attendances or field trip forms and send them right back to us without going through the process of printing it out. We eliminate the middle-man (your child) and the form is sent directly to us instead.
  • "Charms" has a built in merit system which is similar to the pass off system used now. We can expand it to include extra credit, and even demerit a student for improper behavior, or too many absences.
  • "Charms" includes an interactive calendar that allows parents to sign up for volunteer work and look at upcoming important dates. It even allows you to sync it with an electronic deice such as a mobile phone or desktop computer.
Because the software is new and the staff is still getting acclimated, we're not certain what components of the software we will be using. In addition, there are many other components that we have not yet learned. We will keep you updated as we move forward through the learning process.
 
So what's the next step for the parent?
 
Once your child receives an ID name and password, you will be able to access all of his/her information online. You may update any information that has changed or add information we my have missed. We should be able to distribute login info as soon as we're ready to launch the software to the public. In the meantime, please go to www.charmsoffice.com click on features, followed by features and highlights and learn what this new software system is all about. We feel that this will be a change for the program in the right direction, and we would love for everyone to get on board.
